So there I was, minding my own business as one does, just home from our trip and putting the dead/dying bad smelling, once green but now brown stuff from our fridge into my compost heap when lo and behold, I was mugged by a gang of wasps. It was only at that point that I remembered I had noticed them last week and told myself to be very careful when going near the compost bin. Although I have been stung before, I have never experienced wasps this way. One crawled up my shirt, stung me a large number of times on my arm before I could get rid of it and as if on cue, the others descended. I read on-line (my go to place for much of my medical knowledge!) that wasps send out little mayday signals to their hive buddies who all attack the offending article, which in this case was me. So after getting back a good chunk of my arm movement and strength post surgery, my left hand and arm are now swollen so much, I think they might explode and all I can do is ice everything and wait for the itching to begin. And to think that just today I was pondering to myself that I’ll miss everyone carrying all my stuff for me. I was getting used to being like The Queen, clutching my handbag and waving at the proletariat whilst everyone else does the hard work!
We had a great, relaxing break with my in-laws. I was in pretty good spirits when we left for our trip but each day as we got closer to coming home, I started to feel my energy fading as now there is nothing between me, my wig fitting appt on Tuesday and chemo on Thursday. It all still feels surreal. The thing I am least looking forward to is washing/combing my hair and feeling it all just come out in my hands. Screw the nausea, fatigue and other yukky side effects but what if it all grows back grey???? Well truth is it will as that’s the color of my hair but now everyone will know, not just me and my hairdresser, who is sworn to absolute secrecy.
Love to all,
Amanda
oh no, I’m so sorry to hear about the wasp attack. That’s really adding insult to injury! And you know, you can always just shave your head, be proactive, nothing says you have to deal with it coming out in your hands. And my gut is you would look as beautiful as you do no matter what the color of your hair.
Ah, thank you 🙂
You have got to be kidding me! Wasps? Really? No more compost pile for you!
Lina
Oh, that is such a drag and those wasp stings are so painful!
I have heard people say that their hair has come back a different color or curly hair came back straight or visa versa…….who knows, maybe your grey hair will come back blonde or brown!
And yes, I agree with above. You can cut your hair before it falls out…..they told Lori to the day when hers would fall out and they were right, so, maybe, you could get a jump on it.
I also agree with Amanda, above, you’ll be beautiful either way.
Keep an eye on that arm, Mandy.
Oh gosh, Amanda – unbelievable. Sorry to hear about the wasp attack, and glad you had a nice break in Florida. My heart continues to be with you as you move to the next phase of your journey. Agree with all the above: your beauty will continue to shine, whatever you decide to do about your hair removal and what your hair chooses to do.
You aren’t a natural blond?
